Bathroom: mix of polished chrome and satin/brushed chrome?

We're redoing a bathroom at the moment and most of the brassware will be polished chrome finish as normal (so taps, showerhead, towel rail, loo flush etc will all be chrome). We toyed with satin chrome for everything but it was way too expensive.

However is it ok to have the doorhandle and cabinet handles in satin chrome rather than polished? For some reason I much prefer the look of the satin handles and also think they'll show marks less. or will this look odd?

I'm not sure this'll look right. I'd stick with polished chrome or brushed chrome for all of it. We are doing brushed stainless steel for one bathroom, polished nickel for the other. Anything polished will show lots of water marks, but surely that'll be a problem mostly on the taps rather than the handles?

Thanks apatite. You're right about water marks. I was thinking more of sticky finger prints (it's mainly a childrens' bathroom) but guess that's less likely than water marks.

I will keep looking and see if I can find some polished ones I like.

I have envy of your brushed stainless steel. Would you post a pic when it's done?

Hmm different material altogether is an interesting idea. I can only think of white china but that's a bit trad and it's a modern bathroom. Will have a hunt around.

Flat/satin black is great for a modern bathroom

I like that idea... there are some dark grey streaks in the floor tiles so dark grey or black would pick them out. But made of what? Metal? All the metal ones I've seen are quite rustic style.

Apatite - as it happens it was the Mike Pro brushed steel range we nearly went for but decided it was too expensive! (It's over 100 extra for each item - which seemed ok when I just thought about taps - but then it was going to be 100+ extra for each of the wastes, bottle trap, hand held shower, shower head, loo flush - and brushed steel towel rails are more expensive too...). So we have gone for Mike Pro but in polished chrome!

This is the kids bathroom though, so we may still go for brushed in ours, if and when we ever get round to doing ours.

You sound like me on the planning front though I have a renovation for the rest of the house all planned out, even though we won't be able to do it for at least 3 years.

You mentioned black. Have you seen the hero black range from hudson reed? I have no idea about the quality of this range, but I think they're better priced than mike pro. Worth your consideration?

black cupboard knobs... can't do black taps as the chrome ones are in already! interesting idea though... bit gothic for me I think.
