their last day tomorrow and we shall be sad to see them go, they've done such a fantastic job. I've told them endlessly but would like to get them a small token of appreciation.

what did you get your's, if you were happy of course! and to what sort of monetary value???

A bit of cash for a few pints might be the least awkward thing to give them.

sacbina · 11/11/2014 13:55

had been thinking beer, wasn't thinking flowers and cake Grin but thought cash might be a bit.........not sure

Cash or some beers.

Maybe some nicer than average beer - some of the bottled ones are good.

amy83firsttimer · 11/11/2014 14:01

Definitely beer tokens or just some good press / recommendations. Ask them for a supply of their business cards so you can recommend them. Online reviews?

sacbina · 11/11/2014 14:07

definitely, the company already know I'm happy to give glowing reviews, and we're not finished yet, still got second fix, tiling, bathroom/kitchen installation. but its the last time we see these two guys, who for the last 2 months have not stopped working. my kids love them and will be very sad to see them go.

how much is an appropriate amount though? £50/£100????
am I in the right ball park? I get a bit embarrassed with the whole money thing!

The thing with cash for beer is it doesn't actually matter if they're not drinkers, it's just an easy way of presenting a little bonus. "Here, get yourself a couple of pints, you deserve it." Then they can spend it on whatever they want.

Marmitelover55 · 11/11/2014 14:18

We got ours some really nice beef from an independent brewery and invited them plus partners to our extension warming party as guests of honour Grin Still miss them a bit 3 months on...they were great and quite hunky

Marmitelover55 · 11/11/2014 14:32

Oops beer not beef...

SunnyUpNorth · 11/11/2014 14:42

They might love some good beef!

Do you know if they drink? Of so some nice bottles of local ale or beer might be good. Otherwise cash if probably best and you could give them a homemade cake or something with it?

How lucky to have nice builders, I seem to have such bad luck with tradesmen!

sacbina · 11/11/2014 14:45

they definitely drink beer, they've had a few after hours when they've worked a long day and/or at weekends.

it is so hard to find good builders, so if anyone is in west London pm me and I'll happily recommend them

not sure what they'd do with a lump of beef Grin

Marmitelover55 · 11/11/2014 15:52

You could invite them round for a lovely roast beef Sunday lunch...

sacbina · 11/11/2014 15:59

it would be a while.....probably January !

OP posts:
Marmitelover55 · 11/11/2014 16:04

Oh yes - maybe stick with the beer then rather than the beef Grin

Apatite1 · 11/11/2014 19:12

If they're in London, please recommend them to me!

sacbina · 11/11/2014 19:31

quite specifically west London, not sure how far they travel. pm me and I'll send you the name.

OP posts:
Apatite1 · 11/11/2014 20:53

Cheers, have PMd you sacbina!

sacbina · 11/11/2014 22:17

ok, last gasp hope for someone to tell me how much is appropriate. been here 8 weeks, have done everything apart from electrics and plumbing themselves.

is £100 each too much, too little? I've been baking cakes/biscuits, buying them other bits along the way.

just really wanted to show these particular two that we really appreciate all their hard work. I know it's their job but they've made it all so easy, and we've ended up with a perfect extension.

please advise, I need to do this tomorrow!

OP posts:
wohmum · 11/11/2014 22:20

Ooh Sachbina, could I get their details too? I'll pm you.

I wouldn't think you need to spend loads - £100 between them sounds fine - and will buy a good night out.

wohmum · 11/11/2014 22:24

Sorry - just saw that you suggested £100 each. I'd think they'll be very pleased with that.

HexBramble · 12/11/2014 05:54

Very generous.
They sound a great team. Gutted to read it's west London. Good builders hard to come by.
