Woodburner

We have got an existing fire place. It's working and a open style. However it doesn't give off much heat when lit and the room is big. Plus the faff of clean up etc.

Wanting a woodburner. And have had a HEYAS engineer out to quote for installation.

Looking at various woodburners. And I quite like this one by Ekol www.fluesystems.com/shop/Ekol_Clarity_12.html

I wonder whether anyone rates this brand or are they rubbish?

Other suggestions welcome. Must be DEFRA and 8kw - 12kW

Don't know about ekol, but we've found Dunsley pretty good.
There's still a bit of mess to clear up with wood stoves though, so you'd still have that faff!

We've got a clearview and it's fab. I would thoroughly recommend. The controls are amazingly sensitive and as the name suggests the glass does not soot up. We did loads of research and clearview came out top.

I know there will still be some mess and faff but it's better contained than an open fire (bitter experience). In the main I wanted to heat the room/ house rather than pigeons bums which is what I am currently doing

8-12 KW?! do you live in a mansion or somewhere without any other type of heating ??

Our 4-5 KW stove heats the entire downstairs of our three bedroom semi.

But in principle yes yes yes get one. They are brilliant, radiate heat, and look nice. If you crave the woodsmoke smell you can open the door, take a lungful, close .... :)

Lounge is 35ft x 22ft. And almost 15ft floor to ceiling.

The online calculator produced an 18kw requirement but the HETAS Man said 8 - 12 kW was sufficient.

I've got a Charnwood Cove which I love. I was between the Cove and a Clearview Pioneer but the Charnwood is meant to be a slightly better make, easier to light, more controllable, etc. it has an air wash system to keep the glass clean. I think a lot of stoves do now.

Morso also meant to be very good.

Have you seen the whatstove website for reviews?

I've got a Charnwood cove too. Although they do create dust, I only clean the ashes out about once a week, not like everyday when we had an open fire. I love, love, love it.

We're in the middle of having a Stovax Riva Vision installed which we chose on the basis of it's having the biggest glass door in the market so you see the flames.

We also have a Stovax in the garden room which is fab.

Can't wait till it's in as currently I have a massive hole in the chimney wall and a hole where the hearth will be

We have a Charnwood. Really lovely, gives off lots of heat. Easy to clean and use. Also liked Morso and clear view. Went with Charnwood as they are made in the Isle of Wight

We have a 16kw Coalbrookdale (installed by PO) in our snug which is open to the dining room, a total space of 30' x 16' and tbh I'm looking forward to having normal open fires in our new house as I find it more of a PITA......

I guess more modern, efficient woodburners are better but imho a proper open fire is preferable and not such a fad!

We have a Contura 51 which has an output of 3-7 kw. It heats our LR which is a converted barn with 20ft ceilings and our open plan kitchen/dining room and another seating area (about 20m x 20m).

We have the Dovre 35 in cream, love the retro style and the heat is incredible.

Our big 4 bed semi only needed 5kw. I have a very trusted mate who runs a business doing them. Clear view and chilli penguin are cool

Oh I love the Dovre 35 but it was too much kw for our room and the smaller version doesn't look as nice. Out of proportion.

Our living room is a similar size/height to you and I think our stove is a 6kw.
Most days I need to open the front door to let the heat out!
Wish I had one in our bedroom too!

We've got our Clearview 400p being installed on 1st December . . . . We're not excited, oh no, not one little bit !!

Wanted one when we had our build done a few years ago, but the money just wouldn't stretch. Our installer recommended the Clearview over the Charnwood, so waiting for a lovely toasty Christmas

Now we've just got to decide what to put on the wall behind the woodburner - no chimney - so looking at split tile mosaic stone. What has anyone else used? Looking for inspiration!!!

Sorry - a bit off the point here, but re cleaning. Could you use an industrial type hoover to clean a wood burner?

I don't know about hoovering it, never felt the need. They work best with a bed of ash in them. Mine has a little drawer pan thing which slides out. Walk outside with it, tip it in the bin. Job done.

TIP thanks. Morso is on the list but the one which fits the bill is about £1700. That wasn't quite what I had mind in terms of spend.
