Anyone know how to unblock a toilet without the embarrassment of calling a plumber?

Sink plunger or untangle a wire coat hanger and push the 'waste' through.

Yep, wire coat hanger. Chop up the blockage. Try not to vomit. Voila!

Marigolds and a black back!

Jug of water from a high height

I always use a wire coat hanger. Obviously it's not me that blocks it. EVER...

Mop plunge in and out

HomeIsWhereTheHeartIs · 01/11/2014 20:59

MN taught me this one: take an empty 2ltr drinks bottle, cut off the bottom, and, with the bottle top still on, plunge in to the water. This will create a vacuum et voila, blockage is cleared.
It's magic!

Buckets of hot water chucked down.

A bucket of water poured in to the toilet from a height, I didn't think it would work, but tried it recently when nothing else worked and it did work. Also a metal coat hanger straightened out and poked round the ubend.

Try boiling water, too. A kettlefull can do the trick nicely.

SWIMTHECHANNEL · 02/11/2014 19:56

But might crack the porcelain (a friend did!)

JassyRadlett · 02/11/2014 21:07

Oh Jesus. What a horrifying thought.

Plunger.
