Replacing old floorboards within a sanded floor

Do some tradespeople replace old floorboards with similarly old floorboards, or at least try to stain a new board to match the existing ones?

I'm trying to be okay about the brand new fluorescent beacon floorboard amongst my 65 year old battered ones, but I just can't .

If you mean a plumber or electrician, no.

If you mean a chippy who you have paid to renovate and cosmetically restore your floor, yes. You will be paying for the time and fiddly work.

It is a small labour-intensive job which you could try yourself. Get several shades of Colron and experiment on some offcuts to mix a colour that will blend in. Sand it first using medium then fine paper wrapped round a cork block (not your fingers).

I would finish off with Diamond satin varnish, or you could use wax if that's how the rest of the floor is done. People seem to like Liberon (sp?)
