Moving - your advice

So, we have finally got a house which means moving in 5 weeks time - exciting times! We have very little furniture - one chair and footstool, a cot, a child's bed and a few tables and will need to buy lots of furniture but we will start with the basics until our finances start to recover. We are moving from a rental which was furnished Luckily the house is only about a 5 minute drive from where we are now. Does anyone have any moving tips? Like things to do before we move in or moving day advice?
I am pregnant and have a 3 year old. Our landlady was lovely and I was also thinking of getting her a small gift to celebrate her moving back into her house.

how kind!

just to check you have given written notice and your deposit is protected.

if you have exchange, then it is definitely happening - so set up your post office redirect for at last 3 months, in your condition I'd say 6. Make sure you have insured the new place.

contact your car insurers to advise the change of address date. Take meter readings at both places on the day. Find out who the new electric/gas supplier is; you take them on and can change if you like once you are in. TBH, all other address changes can be done after the move, and mostly online. Arrange new broadband/landline as that can take time.

once you are in, phone the council and water company to set up accounts.

I would suggest van hire but sounds like a 'man with a van' would be better for you. So start getting quotes.
