Would you buy a house with a youth club out the back?

Just that really. The house ticks most of our boxes apart from the fact it's got a big youth club building behind it.
On the plus side it means privacy in the garden as no neighbours overlooking, on the other hand it's a bit ugly to have sitting in your view.

I love the house but this one thing is putting me off and I can't decide!

Would put me off. I'd be worried about teens hanging around in the street being a pain. Noisy discos??

I would check to see how often it is used and for what - if they hire it out for loud parties every weekend I would run a mile for example!

Can you screen it from view with hedging?

Also, a lot of youth clubs are being disbanded and sold for housing now. Sad but true, I'd bear this in mind if I were you.

No, my last house had no land/access at the back and just a small kitchen window which faced onto a youth club entrance. The window had obscure glass so they couldn't really see in but whenever they had a Friday night disco a group would gather and spray lager through the window vent slats, sometimes even had cigarette ends put through.

Complained over and over about it but it kept happening. It only stopped when I changed the window to one without a vent.

Youth club now gone and replaced by a huge block of retirement flats so I imagine my old kitchen doesn't get much light.

Can't really hide it from view as its a large-ish building. There's not easy access from the club to the street so I wouldn't be worried about the disturbance in that way, although I don't know about any noise disturbance.

If you look on the garden picture they've managed to hide it, but the back of the club faces the back garden. There's also a mini shopping centre further on from the club with a big tesco etc.

bear in mind that even if the club has limited hours , that may change. We looked into a pleasant house until we checked the map and found the nearby go-kart track - which was applying for extended hours...

trouble is you can't complain if the place was there when you bought the house.

Good lord, thats a lot of house for 180! Very jealous. Its a shame - as you say, the house is lovely, but I couldn't get past that. I'd rather buy a tatty house and make it beautiful, than buy a beautiful house in dodgy location.

You could knock on a few neighbouring houses and ask if there's much noise. You could also ask at the local police station if they ever have any complaints relating to the youth club. The more information you have the better.

I used to live in a flat with a youth club behind. There was a small games pitch right outside my living room (which faced the back) and you'd hear them shout a bit when playing games, but nothing offensive. No discos etc. The pitch had floodlights which were bright at night but we're night owls so we'd be awake anyway, though some neighbours complained. I didn't have a problem with it, but it was an urban area so perhaps we're not so fussy about being in a naice neighbourhood as some parents. The youth club was only built a few years after we moved in, not sure if it would have made any difference to our decision to move though.

No because it could get sold any day you could end up with a pub ,drug rehab or anything on your door
