Can you use the snipping tool or crop a screenshot to get a picture? Alternatively, what page is it on?

If you type in "country living christmas fair 2014 " & press images ...it is the picture (several) of the greyish mantel with 4little stockings hanging across the woodburner ... as clear as mud

I'll probably go to the Islington show now that I've seen that.
The fireplace looks lovely, I painted mine grey many years ago and still love it. There's no way of knowing what they've used but you could try F&B tester pots, it's really easy to mix them together until you get the exact colour you want, several testers would be enough for a fireplace.

Me too Smile my fireplace is an original massive Victorian wooden surround which I haven't quite plucked up the courage to paint ...yet...

satinlaceshow does the smoke from the fire affect the paint on your mantel?

We don't light a fire very often, but it hasn't affected the paint at all. I'm always mixing and experimenting with colours and finishes. When I get the right shade, I save some in those screw top airtight beakers for future repairs.
I have used pale grey spirit based floor paint on the wall panelling in my bathroom as it goes along the side of the bath. It's incredibly strong, but does have a satin finish.

Insider knowledge or a good guess?

I used F&B 'Blackened' on my wooden mantel - so pleased with it.
