Kitchen extension

Ok, so after having house in market and no luck we have decided to get a kitchen/dining/living extension.
We have an architect coming on Sunday and are going to use him to draw up koans rather than the builder.
Question is, when do we get kitchen layout/design drawn up? We know we want a kitchen island with hob on so do we get architect to draw where it will be placed on the plans? Problem is we are finding it hard to work out / visualise the best orientation of the island

Architect is possibly not the best person. Kitchen retailer would be the best option. They know their products and plan kitchens every day of the week.

Thanks, my worry is though that surely the plans the architect draw up will have to show where gas pipe will have to be located and until we get out head around layout we won't know where it should be.coukd I take architects drawings to kitchen company?

The kitchen people will work with the builder on the exact location of gas and electricity. You just need a rough idea at this stage.

I took our architect drawings to the kitchen co. Nothing had to be decided until the builders actually started work and did the 1st fix plumbing.
