Carpet that is the same idea as sisal/coir, but made of something else?

I love the look of sisal and coir for a stair carpet, but a fitter and shop have very strongly advised against it. Any ideas for something similar? I love the vintagey shabby kind of look of it.

I always liked the look of it, until we rented a house that had it - living rooms, hall, stairs, landings, bedrooms everybloodywhere . It's AWFUL to live with.

The tiny fibres irritated my skin... It's nasty and scratchy if you sit down on it, or brush your leg against it... My youngest DC started crawling 2 days after we moved out, and I realised then that the sisal had been too rough for his hands and knees to touch.... If you knock over a glass of water it soaks in so much that it takes 3 or 4 days for the wet patch to dry up... similarly any muddy footprints soak in and can't just be hoovered out.... I could go on...Grin

I'd give sisal or anything in the sisal ball park a HUGE swerve.

Yes indeed! The carpet fitter pointed out also that it doesn't hold its shape so goes baggy on stairs. I suppose I want something different to the usual carpet though.
