Alternatives to Velux

Is Velux to ceiling windows as Hoover is to vacuum cleaners?

I think that are some alternative brands, but not sure if they are as good and/or significantly cheaper as not the brand leader?

I'm looking to save money on the extension, but not make false economies, so any feedback much appreciated.

Velux aren't particularly cheap but in the scale of extension costs I think they are good value for money and they are well made and nicely finished. Comes into the category of things that are hard to replace if the cheap alternative turns out to be rubbish.

I believe Fakro are supposed to be just as good.

I actually got my architect to remove the velux windows from our extension plans which he wasn't keen to do. The extension is mostly glass, patio doors at the back & I didn't see the need for velux too as I know back gets the sun from 11am on.

I don't dislike them but as these kind of projects tend to run over budget I'm starting as I mean to go on & not have any of what we deem to be unnecessary expense.
