How to hang mirror with no damage on wallpaper?

Trying to work out a way of hanging mirror above the fireplace of our rental property. The wall is papered (plain) so DH says we can't use those velcro hanging strips? Cannot get a hold of the landlord to ask him, and don't want to cause any lasting damage!

What ever you use will damage the paper, if the mirror is large you will need to drill holes. To be honest 99.9% of tenants would want a mirror over a fireplace which is why we always make fixings there is out rentals. Strange your LL hasn't done so.

you could put screw-eyes in high up, away from eye level. If neatly done it will not be conspicuous and a dab of paint will hide it.

The plasplugs should be tapped slightly below the surface to avoid cracking the plaster. This also makes it easier to fill the hole later.
