Okay, I know that the logical thing to do is get actual quotes from actual builders, but it's 9pm at night so that's not going to happen. Mumsnet is the obvious solution.
Please can you tell me how much you paid for your loft conversions or two storey rear extension so that I can work out if it's a realistic option for a house we want to buy? (And yes, I will get actual quotes, but if you help me out with this I might get some sleep tonight rather than letting ideas whirl around my head!)
