Making some serious structural changes to the roof... Sort of twisting the roof.

I am considering a loft extension.

We have a three bed end of terrace with a hipped roof. We are in a conservation area, so cant make any changes that are going to be visible from the road (other than adding a velux window or three). Dormers are permitted on the side and the back.

My idea is to leave the roof the way it is at the front, extend the side of the roof back so that the roof at the back of the house looks almost like a gable.

The roof shape on the loft will then be something like this:

But imagine the right hand side of the house being without the small dormer (?) and being the rest of the terrace stretching out.

Dormer on the side.

I think this would be the most sensible way of maximizing space and making it nice from the back garden, yet keep the roof on the front unchanged, and with the permitted velux on the front and side dormer.

Any ideas?
