Did they get an extension built for £11k?

They didn't, they went over budget didn't they? As did the woman who did her kitchen! 3k budget, went over 5k...

Not seen the programme before but do they always go over so much? What's the point?! And I'm sure it'd be even more if the cameras weren't there...

It wasn't much of an extension though was it? the dining table shoved up against the wall didn't seem to be a great gain...

Yeah they went £2k over on kitting it out and granted the space wasn't that big, but it still seems like a very low cost for an extension with skylights and bi-folding doors

if it's true, personally I don't believe it. No way do they declare all the costs involved.

Also the Birmingham kitchen ended up looking v. ordinary compared to the original plans. The only different thing about it was the (imho) scratty looking concrete floor and work tops. I usually quite like the bare polished concrete look, but only when it's been done properly. The kitchen last night just looked unfinished to me.

I was seriously underwhelmed with the kitchen too. The plywood door fronts just looked cheap; I think the owner was 100% invested in the "look" the architect was going for as well which didn't help

I don't believe any of the extentions come in at what they say (except maybe the corrugated metal and cheap plywood one, where the savings were made on the methods, although not convinced by the plywood). I am sure it is more to do with them being on a television programme. In fact I expect featuring on a this would have helped to secure the corrugated metal fitter - and we never did see how that extention fitted on to the one next door..................

I actually liked the kitchen. I think the plywood doors cost something like £65 total for materials so they looked cheap coz they were cheap!

Oh I love this programme. I liked the kitchen but couldn't live with concrete - it's a real nails down a blackboard product for me. If the floor had been painted it would have looked even better and I loved that dark green.
I can just about believe the extension could be that cheap because it was tiny. The camera lens will make things look bigger than they are and it still looked small

I quite like this programme as I find it an antidote to some of the crazy spending on Grand Designs etc (and I know that's like comparing apples and oranges). The houses are normal and the budgets are usually realistic.

It may be a bit out there in some ways - I'm not totally convinced by the plywood but I guess as they were only doors they could be upgraded once more money was saved up, for example - but it is quite interesting and tries to be individual and not rely on buying stuff off the shelf.

I had to turn off after the first 10 mins I was so wound up by them claiming they could do an extension for 11k. I looked onto a similar side return (only 3m x 3m so hardly even bigger) and was looking at 25k plus cost of kitchen, flooring, doors etc. Bifold doors are about 3 bloody grand. Mind you that's London prices. I was in quite a bad mood already though because NO-ONE WANTS TO BUY MY HOUSE. Ahem. As you were.

£25k for 9 sqm? Sorry but that is someone taking you for a ride. The right builders working for people who know how much these things really cost could easily have done that tiny extension for 11k. Bifold doors etc are not that expensive if you get them for trade prices. I reckon the extension they built was 8sqm anyway so well within the £1000-1500 per sqm that most people pay. Steels don't cost much and the plans were probably done for free by the architect on the show. To be honest I thought both places looked crap and i could have come up with way better myself. The concrete floor in particular was awful.

How do you get trade prices on bifolds? Other than being trade?

The bi-folds were small too - I'd say at least half the size of others bought on other programmes.

Well you get the builder to buy them and make sure he isn't adding some money on top for himself.
