Hi all,

I've been really impressed with the info you supply each other on here I was hoping you could help me?

My partner has recently been offered a job in Kent. The role is split with 3 days in Gravesend and 2 days in Dartford. (I can work from home)

We currently live in Dublin and Edinburgh respectively so it's difficult for either of us to do any easy reconaissance of Kent but we are planning on having a weekend of tearing around the county figuring out where on earth we want to live.

Essentially our budget is about 800 - 1250 per month rent. For a 2 bed room furnished or part furnished property.

I've researched Sevenoaks and it looks very nice but I'm worried it might put a bit too much time on my partners daily commute.

So, in a nutshell.....can you recommend nice areas, small towns, villages that are within 30 mins of Dartford/Gravesend?

We're a couple of 30 year olds. We'd like a place with a nice high street where we can get a nice meal on a Friday night or nice breakfast on the Sunday morning. Good rail links to London would be a plus.

Really appreciate any info I can get? Dartford and Gravesend aren't necessarily off the search I just haven't seen loads of glowing reports.

Many thanks :)

You could live in Plumstead, SE London. The direct train is 17 mins to Dartford and 30 minutes (with one change) to Gravesend.

Plumstead is lovely and we have some nice local restaurants and lots of green space around us. And easy to get to London on the train.

Bexley village perhaps?

Rochester? If you pick the nice bits and don't stray into Strood/Chatham.

Maidstone?

Into SE London? Chislehurst, Bromley etc, although not sure about your budget.

Best places to live round here are the villages but you won't have what you want right on your doorstep, have to drive a few miles for meals/shops etc.

Beckenham. Excellent links to London.

Does your husband need to use public transport or is he driving?
