Light above a hob?

We have new hob in corner of kitchen, more or less behind a pillar. Means its quite dark standing at hob as light from central (largish pendant) is a bit obscured. What would anyone recommend?

Thank u but we can't have an extractor as it next to a window. Not ideal but only place it could go.

I suppose you could have a spotlight bar. If you have three or four lamps you can direct them along hob, worktop, sink. They do not have to be in the middle of the ceiling.

Look for one with either LED lamps, or a standard or small screw or bayonet fitting. Then you can later convert to CFL or LED lamps. Some of the little bulbs with novel fittings are difficult to change, and will probably be obsolescent with in a year or two. A new generation of LED lamps is on its way.
