has anyone ever put sockets in the floor, like you see in meeting rooms, in a kitchen?

I'm reluctant to get an island in our new kitchen as I don't want to permanently shape our space but we probably want more work surface with something on wheels. it will probably mostly go in the middle of the room by the table.

I think it would be daft not to put power to it - either for the work surface bit or the table as everyone always needs plugs but it seems to be the most flexible thing would be one of those floor boxes you see in meeting rooms (I go to a lot of meetings)

Is that mad or brilliant?

How about having power coming down from the ceiling?

Our builder advised against sockets on the side of the island as anything plugged in would have a wire trailing over the edge which is easy to pull catch as you walk past. We have a pull out plug socket in our island on the top, although that doesn't help if you don't want a permanent island. I am very Envy of the one with usb sockets.

Thanks for loads more comments!

we don't want it in the island as we prefer an island we could move to one side if we have a party or something

  • USB ports - fab idea thanks! might put them in the sockets too!
  • trailing wires - there will be trailing wires from the worktops so for 3 or so metres across the room so this would def be safer
  • concrete floor will be having vinyl I think so a channel would need to be run through - but that would be the same if they were fixed to the island.

hmmm.

more hopeful!

Oh I see, sorry!
We never have anything permanently plugged into in there Island. Ie bring blender out, use, put away. Anything permanent lives in our pocket cupboards permanently plugged in (toaster and stand mixer) - cupboard that has a work top behind the doors, good for hiding away breakfast mess!

We have them in our new build house in the sun room and my husbands office/hobbies room. They are great. Also have sockets on the end of island in the kitchen. Always in use - could probably have done with two doubles instead of one.
