Hi. I grew up in cornwall but moved away when I was in my late teens. Now I have two little boys we have decided to go back (fantastic place to grow up and have lots of family there) but can't decide where. Would like a small town/ large village with school and couple of shops but within a few miles of Truro. Can anyone offer any advice or help as it's beginning to make me go slightly mad with looking as don't know that part of Cornwall that well.

Hohhot I remember that fuzzy stuff well. We had a shop that sold that sugar covered tobacco strands and Nutella in tiny tubs with a spoon. Yuk!

Good luck! Let us know what you think! Ponsanooth might not be too bad either (on the bus route again) but I was always put off by the main road through the middle.

Playing Place and Feock are both nice from driving past, and even closer to Truro (good buses again!) but might be pricey due to Truro proximity, and I don't know much about the schools or indeed the average age of the population. Far too many villages are not exactly stuffed with young families, more the opposite. I have friends who grew up in those villages but I've no idea if they were the only young family in town or if things have changed!

Carnon Downs hasn't been mentioned - near to Devoran. Again I don't know it that well personally but it is somewhere people I know look to live.

Hiya I live v near Probus mentioned upthread. It is a v nice village, excellent for families, but doesn't have that 'villagey' feel. Although you don't sound like that's what your looking for Smile

Grampound/Grampound Road also nice in that area. Tregony a bit further out.
More affordable to the west of Truro, towards Redruth and Cambourne.
MItchell?
Gloweth/Threemilestone is more an extension of Truro these days.
Deveron is v nice, but doesn't have a couple of shops!

Have you looked at Helston? Perfect sized town with shops for everyday, schools, doctors etc. Handy for the coast and easy drive to Truro, Falmouth, Camborne or Penzance.

Thanks everyone. I like helston but a bit too far from my family (I fully intend to call them for baby sitting duties). I know Probus a bit and am keener on it from your feedback. I'll have a look at canon downs too.
