I'm talking location-wise, not house-wise.

After a summer of being out and about in the countryside we are (again!) pondering a move out of London. So I thought I'd turn to MN with this question.

Do you live somewhere amazing - I'm talking about fantatsic countryside/beaches, that kind of thing, somewhere you'd recommend unreservedly? Good schools, decent housing, access to a bit of culture should you fancy it. City, small town, village.

It's me, DH and DD (4).

Anywhere in England. North, south, east or west, or slapbang in the middle. But not London .

Just somewhere you think couldn't be bettered. Oh, and why would be good to know too!

Yeah, I love it here. But if I told you where it was, everyone would to come.

And I'd out myself.

But if you like lots of space, I'd suggest Norfolk.

Yes - London! Admittedly the beaches aren't up to much and there are amazing parks as opposed to proper countryside, but on every other front I don't think it gets better ...

I'm not far from the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales and it's fabulous here.

Glorious countryside, really lovely little towns (Skipton, Ilkley, etc.), you can hop on a train at the local station and be in the centre of Leeds in about 20 minutes or so.

I love it here, wouldn't want to live anywhere else

I suggest South Cornwall. It's amazing!

We are thinking the same thing after a summer in the countryside. I have my heart set on Norfolk as I love it (flat as it is!) So many people I know are doing /thinking of doing this. 10 families moved out of my Ds's year group this summer alone. I wonder if it will force someone to do something if the only people who can afford a decent life in London are the very wealthy or single people living in tiny hovels away from their families, or whether they just won't care :(

I live in a pretty part of rural South Yorkshire - half an hour from Sheffield and Leeds, and an hour from Manchester. The primary schools round here are ofsted outstanding and a couple of the secondary schools are ofsted good. We have a station in the village with hourly trains to Sheffield. We have a market town a few miles away and the Trans Pennine Trail on our doorstep, and I can be on the M1 in 10 minutes. I love it here.

I'm in The Chilterns. It is very beautiful.

Minutes from the peak district- Beautiful plus so much to do.

Yorkshire isn't somewhere we've explored together, I've been as a child so not for ages. It does look beautiful - maybe our next holiday! Not sure about Norfolk, it does look v flat .

Cornwall we're very familiar with, in fact we've just come back from visiting family there and DH is on Right Move as we speak checking stuff out. Would be close to BIL but miles from anyone else!

Chilterns I know a bit, yes, very pretty. Peak District I love but I found Buxton and Bakewell to be a bit - dull? Mind you, we were there on a very grim rainy day, probably a Sunday to make it that bit worse. But I guess Derby is the nearest city - what's that like?

I'm kind of thinking we have 3 years to explore and decide, we'd probably rent to begin with as if we sell up in London and move we'll be priced out in a nano-second. Budget if we forgo our not-very-well-paid-but-have-to-be-in-London jobs would be around £700K (I know, I know , ludicrous house price rises in even our rather grotty bit of town) max, probably wouldn't want to go quite that high (I haven't got a pension yikes).

Exeter is amazing, walking by the canal on a sunny day is bliss. There's a lovely vibe to the area, you've got some fabulous beaches in easy reach and it's nestled in the countryside.

West Cornwall ticks all the boxes for me EXCEPT it is miles from anywhere. But I wouldn't live anywhere else now
