Patterned Bathroom Floor Tiles.

For the main bathroom I'm thinking of having encaustic look floor tiles, possibly the Fired Earth Abbey Waverley tile, or British Ceramics Devon patterned tile, they're both a grey and white pattern.

I've wanted a patterned bathroom floor tile for ages but they seem to be quite popular at the minute, do you think they will look dated in a couple of years?

We're having white metro tiles halfway up the wall and painted above, an Art Deco/1930's style basin and loo with a freestanding bath, either a boat bath or slipper.

The other option for the floor would probably be an oak floor effect Karndean.

Ooooo I love these. This style is on my Pinterest too. Topps tiles also do some similar. I think they are classic so will look good for years yet. Go for it.

Oh, erm, I mean these ones . The fired earth ones are lovely but I much prefer the others.

Greencheese I have those tiles on my Pinterest too, they're probably my 3rd choice after the others, I love them but I'm thinking I'll stick to grey tones so I can have more choice of colour for the walls.

DH isn't keen on the patterned floor look and I think that's making me doubt my choices. I might go with the Devon Stone tiles, they're about a third cheaper than the Fired Earth.

The look I'm trying to go for is sort of classic/traditional, if that is a look?! I'll try and link the bath etc and see if people think it goes.

Something along the lines of this would be classic/traditional with the sort of fittings and tiling your wanting to use, surely? Any chance of tiling your hall with the lovely devon stone tiles?

I'll link my Pinterest bathrooms page, it has a bit of a mix as there's idea on for the ensuite and downstairs loo but that's the general look I'm going for, kind of traditional but not trying to copy any one era.

The rest of the house will be quite neutral, mostly off whites and greys, the floors downstairs will be mostly sanded and stained.

I'm not having a contrast border tile, it will be either the white dado tile that goes with the retro metro tiles or a wooden dado if we go with one tongue and groove panelled wall and have a back to wall toilet.

The shower will be a low profile tray with a glass panel to one side, no door and the walls tiled in the white metro tiles, possibly with a light grey grout.

Ah right! I misunderstood what you were after! It sounds good, loads of very nice stuff on your Pinterest too.

So yeah, I love the devon stone tiles. Would take them over the fired earth ones, most certainly. THe Waverly ones really are lovely too but the pattern is a bit too active / agitating for a bathroom really. They'd work best in a space where you want swift action, as it were. Hall, porch or, indeed, maybe a downstairs loo.

I don't think I quite know myself exactly what I'm after so just hoping I get it right!

I'm going to have a look in Topps Tiles but will most likely go with the Devon Stone, they're the first ones I liked (apart from some way out of budget Fired Earth encaustic tiles) and I keep coming back to them.

I love tiled halls but ours is more of a passage and patterned tiles would probably make it look even smaller, we're most likely sanding the boards in the passage and front room, carpet the back room and plain tiles in the kitchen.

Oh those waverley tiles are my top choice for the bathroom in the victorian house we're in the process of buying. A friend of mine has patterned floor tiles in her bathroom and they look lovely - I get envy every time Im in there. Would definitely go for it and ignore the husband (I am going to be doing that a lot.)

I think they will date and some of my interiors mates already saying they are over I love them think they are beautiful but if you think you will tire I would go plain. And add pattern elsewhere. My house before last I had a plain floor and had 4 moroccan tiles behind the sink which gave the look

I don't think I will tire of them and we have no plans to sell the house so I think I'll go with it.

If I don't have a patterned floor I'd probably have some sort of wood effect, not sure what else would go with the white metro tiles without looking too clinical.

I have noticed that they seem to have become more popular recently, I've seen them quite a lot in interiors mags. I don't think they're so common that they would become particularly dated though.

I would only change the floor if I wanted a different look. I don't really care if something's current or dated as long as I like it.

SwedishEdith those Carmelo tiles are beautiful, I love the Toulouse St Etienne tile as well but all of the Fired Earth encaustic tiles are out of our budget. Fired Earth in general is out of our budget!

They can be over in the same way wallpaper chandeliers etc which have all been around forever really but in interiors fashions they come in cycles. If that bothers you then you could get bored. I am not talking about Minton floors etc but the current wave of black grey and white pseudo moroccan tikes that are already being reproduced in vinyl at big DIY stores. The ones linked are lovely but will date if you are bothered about that. They are like feature walls and striped stair carpets.

To me this www.tidyawaytoday.co.uk/tag/travertine-tiles/ bathroom looks dated. Someone I work with has just done her bathroom like this and most new build bathrooms where I live are like this, or similar. I don't like mosaic tiles in bathrooms but a lot of my friends have them in their bathrooms.

I do think the patterned floors are popular at the minute but where I live (the north east) no one else I know has a bathroom with a patterned floor and they're definitely not popular.

I suppose as long as you like it yourself, and you're not doing a house up to sell or will be moving any time soon, it doesn't matter if what you do is current, dated or whatever really.

No idea how I'm actually going to make a decision when it's time to order, I keep changing my mind.

I like those, they seem to be the style that you are going for too, very nice. Have you picked the tiles for the walls yet? This may make a difference you see. If you are sticking with the metro ones I think these will look nice.
