I hate my house

when we bought it 8 years ago it was a stop gap house until we had DC and moved somewhere bigger

Life hasn't gone as planned and we have 4 of us plus pets in a small 3 bed terrace. Third bedroom is small so used as a junk room.

There is stuff everywhere - I clear out every so often but more stuff (dc and dh) just keeps coming

I am not one for having loads of stuff, but it just keeps coming.

I would love more space and bigger garden but unless we win the lottery I don't think we can buy a bigger house.

Storage is fully utilised so use the space we have - boxes under all beds and in wardrobes but I am dreading Christmas in a way as they amount we get rid of beforehand won't equal what comes in.

What can we do?

DH has finally helped clear the bedroom with me so at least we can walk round the bed which was a start!

It sounds as though you need to declutter. A 2.5 bedroom is really not too small for a family of four, assuming two adults and two children. Even with three children, two in one room and youngest in box room.

I would suggest that you go through your clothes and other household items and throw out anything you no longer wear or use.

Clear out the box room and make into a bedroom for your youngest dc. You can fit a mid cabin bed and store toys/other items underneath.

Take out the boxes in your storage and be ruthless with what you keep.

small start this a morning with DC toys/ books downstairs

two rubbish bags out the house and books started to pass on

dh has promised to go through spare room on Wednesday (his day off) so I'm hoping we can streamline there a bit Grin.

I'm starting a massive declutter on Monday (when building work will start on an extension to give us a third bedroom) so we can send decluttering wishes to each other.

Good for you op (and Molly) having been a hoarder for years and now reformed Grin I m so much happier. It will be worth it.

Set your timer to twenty minutes every day. Over the course of a month, imagine how much you will get rid of!

Well done Super and Molly, I really agree about doing a bit each day. Even if it's one cupboard or drawer.

two bags for charity shop and a box of stuff for me to try and sell
