Never mind estate agents blurb..what is it that makes a house a desirable home, from your point of view of actually living in it?

For me, I love the south facing garden of our house, which means we get lots if sun and a nice quality of light.

I love our huge rooms and high ceilings. Still gives me a sense of luxury after 3 years of living here.

wowfudge · 04/09/2014 14:48

Bright, sunny rooms, period features and good room proportions.

Twitterqueen · 04/09/2014 14:56

Separate spaces. Open plan is all very well but with 3 teenage DDs it's important that everyone can do their own stuff.

Mine is in a lovely and convenient location, has a south facing garden, and although it is small it feels reassuringly solid. And I like the bay windows, although they have been far from unproblematic.

The space
The wonderful garden
View from my bed over the garden (always start the day with a cup of coffee in bed admiring the view)
Beams and quirky old features

I have a double height sitting room with balcony. It feels very decadent somehow.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 04/09/2014 15:06

Space. We have enough rooms to use a bedroom as a dressing room meaning the bedroom isn't crowded.
Decent sized utility room.
Efficient central heating with open fire and woodburner as backup/additional heating sources.

Toda · 04/09/2014 15:15

Light rooms, lived in a dark house before and its so depressing especially in winter, I love my light airy rooms here. Utility room love being able to hide the washing pile by just closing the door. Oh and I have a lovely view to look at every day..

nemno · 04/09/2014 16:00

Fabulous and interesting view, with a huge south-facing balcony so I can enjoy it from inside or out.

specialsubject · 04/09/2014 16:03

sun, space, private garden and quiet neighbours!

oh, and a shop in walking distance.

Marmitelover55 · 04/09/2014 17:29

Cosey lounge with wood burner and lovely new open plan kitchen/diner/snug/utility/study extension. I particularly love the bifold doors and granite peninsular with breakfast bar and the way it is such a sociable space. Upstairs a big mess though.

hiccupgirl · 04/09/2014 17:57

Very quiet and kind neighbours
West facing garden that mostly not overlooked
Cosy lounge
Very light conservatory
Great location - 5 min walk to a co-op and the bus stop

Comfortable sofa

So much. I love my house. I hated my last house and fell in love with this place the second I saw it.

I love the large rooms, the space to store toys, the large downstairs loo with the lovely tiles and fittings I chose, the big kitchen, my shower.... I could go on. I just really like it.

Location wise we are a short walk from a shop, a little play park and a slightly longer walk from the river.

Did I mention I love my house??!!

In all seriousness I disliked my last one so much that it is just a luxury to live somewhere that isn't there. That house had no soul.

echt · 04/09/2014 19:28

Lovely views of trees and plants from every window. Rooms full of light.

So quiet at night. When I first came to live here the quiet used to wake me up.

Llareggub · 04/09/2014 19:30

My sea view - I sleep with the curtains open so I can wake up to it.

Yama · 04/09/2014 19:34

I'm another with a sea view - every night a different sunset over Arran. It really is stunning.

If we are talking about inside the house then I think it's space. My house is not bonny from the outside but it has big rooms and wide halls.

I love getting home very day. Smile

HerrenaHarridan · 04/09/2014 19:40

Good, big kitchen with many cupboards, lots of work space, Soave for a table and a utility cupboard.

Every time I turn in the light aboe the cooker I think "what a good idea"

museumum · 04/09/2014 20:01

Location and high ceilings - both things we will probably have to sacrifice in our next move to get the space we need :(

r2d2ismyidealman · 04/09/2014 20:06

I'm in love with my house. Location. Size. Not open plan. Garden. Lay out. The fact that our so has its original structure. That the walls are thick. I could go on and on.

Stirrup · 04/09/2014 20:10

My neighbours are lovely Grin

Lizzylou · 04/09/2014 20:13

Location and view.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/09/2014 20:17

A good shower - stayed in several hotels over the summer, and each time came back appreciating our own shower!

Tadla · 04/09/2014 20:43

I love the great light we get in the rear/side of house until about 2/3pm.
