Looks like an office block conversion?

What does anyone else make of this?

Idiosyncratic is the word - and soulless to my mind.

All those enormous windows commanding tremendous views of 1980's housing estates

Cereal0ffender · 04/09/2014 14:25

It has 8 bloody loos

FoxyHarlow123 · 04/09/2014 14:25

How did that get through planning?????

minkah · 04/09/2014 14:28

Really really wouldn't want to live in such a house.

Terrierterror · 04/09/2014 14:28

Bad photos but I think the house could be good. It looks pretty awful ATM because all the furniture and decor looks like it was chosen for a completely different type of house and generally says furnished rental.

exWifebeginsat40 · 04/09/2014 14:30

was this on Grand Designs? mind you, everything looks like it was on Grand Designs these days...

nipersvest · 04/09/2014 14:32

i quite like it Blush

OrangeTart · 04/09/2014 14:32

I think all those grand designs type houses look either like office blocks or car showrooms. What on earth is wrong with ordinary sized windows and curtains to shut the dark out.

Terrierterror · 04/09/2014 14:32

It looks a bit like the one that had a pool in the back but that had nicer windows I think.

Cereal0ffender · 04/09/2014 14:34

'How did that get through planning?'

Have you been to Stockport? 1960 office blocks is the local vernacular

wowfudge · 04/09/2014 14:47

The area of Bramhall/Cheadle Hulme it's in has some absolutely gorgeous houses - this particular road has some hideous flats, which are opposite this monstrosity. I've just been trying to find what was there before the planners let this through in 2006.

It's just awful - often modern houses can be 'striking' from the outside, but then the interior blows you away. This is distinctly underwhelming. I can't imagine who would spend that kind of money on this crap - the competition is considerably better.

I'd say the main problem with Stockport Grammar is the parking. It's a nightmare for junior school parents.

myredcardigan · 18/03/2015 10:51

Sorry, wrong Thread.

wowfudge · 18/03/2015 11:21

Incidentally the house is still for sale - surprise, surprise - as I drove past it last week.

PrimalLass · 18/03/2015 14:08

I love the big windows. It's a bit big though - who needs a house that size?

Is it not just one of the blocks of flats that has been converted? The one opposite is the same shape and size.

pinkje · 18/03/2015 14:10

The link above suggests it has been sold or removed from market (maybe all those MNetters having a nosey put them off!)

I like it though, it would take a particular person to live there - someone who is very sure of themselves.

RCheshire · 18/03/2015 15:14

Ha. I saw the thread title and wondered whether it would possibly be this house. Remember looking at it a couple of years ago on rightmove. I'm firmly on the monstrosity side of the fence.

wowfudge · 18/03/2015 16:28

It's still on the market - think they've changed agent and dropped the price below £1m. There was a sale board outside when I drove past.

FunMitFlags · 18/03/2015 16:51

Under offer according to RightMove.

myredcardigan · 18/03/2015 16:58

Ha! Sorry to revive an old thread. I had searched something about stockport and this thread came up alongside the one I was looking for. Accidentally posted on this.
I live quite near Bramhall and I don't think that house is worth anything like the asking price. Lots of Bramhall houses command that price but not really on that street and certainly not looking like a small comprehensive. Just had a quick look and yes, it's still for sale unsurprisingly!

engeika · 18/03/2015 17:44

Actually I rather like it - although I wouldn't want it built next to me! (Hypocrite Grin)

Imagine living there! All that space!

myredcardigan · 18/03/2015 18:25

Oh just looked at it on rightmove. It's worded like a repossession.
