Stud walls?

I know it's a bit dull but I'm thinking of having a stud wall put up to divided my lounge diner. I'd want a door in it too, probably half glazes to let a bit of light through.

Is it a carpenter or a builder I need to get quotes from, and does anyone know the usual price range? It would need to be about 4.5m across and would be in an 80's house so would probably blend in ok.

Thanks

Most trades are capable of putting up a stud wall, but given the door you'll be looking at a combination of joiner/carpenter and a plasterer. The joiner will build the stud wall frame and the doorframe, then the plasterer can insulate and plasterboard the stud and then plaster, before finally the joiner can fit the door, skirtings and architraves. Easiest to paint the wall post plaster but before the skirts/archs go on.

Your materials cost will be mainly influenced by the choice of door, but are likely to be in the region of £500-600. Labour varies (both price and productivity) but I'd plan on 4-5 days total so £600 upwards for labour.

Thank you! It's a slightly bigger undertaking than I was imagining!
