securing trellis by is feet

I would like to put trellis up on our roof terrace, but we can't attach it to the wall. Has anybody got any thoughts/ suggestions about securing it at it's feet to the decking? The other issue is that I don't want to use very long screws as it might go through the roof of our bedroom which is below.

How big/tall is your trellis ? could you get away with fixing it to a plant trough or similar ? or make it with feet so its free standing ?

Echoing what beaufontboy has said, you can buy planters and troughs with trellis attached - I'd go for something like that.

If you make a hole in your roof it will leak.

If you secure fence or trellis by its feet it will blow over.

Is this a roof, designed and built to hold the weight of two inches of snow, or is it a terrace floor, designed to take the weight of great tubs of earth and 20-stone people?

It's a terrace with decking, so we can use smallish screws, but I don't know if I can get screw in feet (several smallish screws) to put posts into. But it doesn't seem to be feasible, as I want a tallish one-4 to 5 feet - and see that there would be problems.
