Sudden damp under stairs

Hi

A few days ago I put down quite a lot of salt on the floorboards under the stairs to discourage a couple of invading slugs. Today the floorboards are very damp to the touch.

Does anyone know why this would happen? Does salt hold moisture like that or could the salt go between the floorboards and corrode a pipe below do quickly?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Jo

Salt is highly hygroscopic.
So yes, it would make sense.

That was fast, thanks!

Do you know the best way to get rid of the damp now? I've removed the salt but the floorboards are very damp now.

Sorry, no idea.

I'm good at explaining things and rubbish at actually doing something!
