Sold but lost dreamhouse what now?

Was on market for six months, finally sold last week, but vendors chose a lower offer in favour of a slightly shorter chain. Don't want to lose our sale though. Do we go ahead and instruct solicitors to start sale proceedings anyway? Nothing for sale that comes close to the other house at the moment though we are looking actively. Obviously every situation is different, but can you share your thoughts on this... We're novices at this so not sure how to play it. Thanks.

I'd go ahead with your sale and move into rented accommodation until something suitable comes on the market, rather than lose your buyer.

Dont' lose your sale. Go ahead and rent somewhere until you find another dream house - there's one out there somewhere with your name on it! You'll be in a much better position to negotiate when you eventually do buy, not having a house to sell.

Six months is standard rental agreement.

Most 6 months and generally you pay through the nose for a shorter tenancy. Suggest you rent somewhere that's 'just OK' so that a) you save a bit of money which will make you feel better about the hassle of moving twice, and b) the rental won't make you incredibly fussy

We found our dream house but it sold the day before we got an offer on ours so we lost it.
The following week a house came on the market that was so much better than the dream one, viewed it and offered the same day.

The dream one might suddenly appear.

There might even been a problem with the lower offer, how far down the line are they. A high %age of sales fail to complete. Make sure the agent is aware you are still interested.

We lost our dreamhouse a few years ago as our own buyer couldn't formally offer until their house was sold. We moved into a smaller house in the same street and got to know the occupants of 'our' dreamhouse'. It was no dreamhouse, there were constant problems with the structure, the couple split and most tragically of all, their baby died suddenly one morning in the house. It was a nightmare house and I'm so glad we didn't get it. Something better will come along.

Yes, instructing solicitors on Monday, so going ahead with sale - eek - am glued to Rightmove, and on EA lists etc - hoping something comes up, but will rent otherwise. Thanks.
