just occurred to me.

I can buy my own appliance can't I? how does the door fix on?

Yes. They come with their own inner door that has fixings for the "decor" door front that matches the kitchen. Apart from that they are freestanding and slide in, then the plinth is fitted across the front (it might need trimming for door to open).

If getting an Ikea kitchen check the unit size carefully though. Almost any other mainstream kitchen supplier should be fine with standard ranges of appliances.

Ours is screwed on, if you open the door we have screws down both sides which are used to attach the wood front.
