find me a lovely rug for toddler DS bedroom

Ok so DS bedroom was our study before he arrived and now he is walking and starting to play in there etc I would really like to give it a little makeover. We have a very plain rug as the (cream!) carpet is a bit jaded - but I would love to get something to inject a bit of personality.

Lots of what I have seen is cartoon / animals / robots / tractors - which is all fine but none of them really appeal to me and I think we would prefer for now something a bit more neutral / abstract so I don't have to build everything around a rug if that makes any sense.

has anyone seen anything eye-catching ?

I like this but think maybe its too babyish and we will go off the pale colours?

Harlequin hoot

or this - will it give us a headache and is it the other extreme too grown up and sensible?

Harlequin abacus

am aware i am probably over analysing but am enjoying browsing and running out of websites to explore!

TIA

I shall follow this thread with interest. I've been dithering over which rug to buy for my toddler for 6 months now!

Personally, I prefer the second brighter option for a toddler. I don't think it is too bright at all, and it will be more interesting in the long run for you and him.

Have you seen GLTC? I yearn for their chevrons.

With things like tractors and animals I'd be tempted to give him a farm themed room to incorporate them both. You could have a fluffy green rug for grass.

We were thinking of doing a forest style room for dd and doing this and I think I remember Next having something we liked. Ikea is also stuck in my head for some reason but I might be making that up

I wasn't imagining it...

Love these!

DD has the IKEA button rug in her bedroom, its brilliant for her. Bright colours, big spots to jump from etc. Was about £35 I think

Liveinthepresent · 19/08/2014 22:28

wow thanks for all these replies - I was waiting to be told i was being a bore!

yes Miney I like the chevrons one too. whats stopping you buying it?!

DD has stripes from Aspace - i love it - think thats maybe why i am thinking shapes but not stripes (not sure that makes any sense!)

Karron loads of nice ones on that link. there are loads on there I like but i am trying to go for something that i can use as a base for other stuff and that can grow with DS as his rooms changes so want to stay fairly theme-less.

I love the Ikea button one here

Oddly it's in their adult rugs section not their children's rugs section so don't limit your searches too much!

I also like the GTLC clouds and stars ones - fairly theme less I think.

Is your DS potty trained yet? If not then you might want to look for something washable and/or cheap!

minipie · 20/08/2014 11:27

these rag rugs from ikea are only 5 (!!) and would add a bit of colour without being "themed". Plus it's washable and if it does get stained you can chuck and start again in a couple of years.

Liveinthepresent · 20/08/2014 14:55

Thanks minipie - like the buttons one too! No we aren't a potty training stage yet - maybe we got off lightly with DD as her rug is pristine but DS may be a different experience!
