I need help in choosing some carpet for my sons bedroom.

The house has beige carpets from previous owners but was thinking of a light grey to go with light blue walls.

I've looked on carpet right website but don't know where to start, or if company any good. I'm not sure what type of carpet or what is a reasonable price per square metre to pay. I don't want a cheap carpet but also don't need luxurious as I don't think he would appreciate it (as much as I would!).

The bedroom is 10' x 8' if anyone can help?

could you go to a showroom? you get a better idea of colours if you can get to see them in real life

Yes, you def need to go and see things in the flesh and see what you think and touch them!

Yes will go and have a look. How much would you think is a reasonable cost though, do I just go for the mid price?

I would look at a velvet type carpet with some wool in it for a bedroom. Mid price is fine but get what you really like or you will regret it. Check out cleaning options too. I would go to John Lewis for a good choice with various price levels. Underlay is absolutely necessary and fitting costs are quite expensive.

The size of the room is perfect for you to go to a carpet warehouse and get the room done with an off cut, or remnant, or end of roll.

This will be cheaper for you.

A 50/50 wool/propylene Berber should be about £15 a sqm. You want cloud 9 underlay.

Go to a local carpet shop. Not carpetright, really..they do make it easy for you.. But they aren't very good value.

You may as well enjoy finding out about carpet because this won't be the last time you have to buy it!

Btw I chose flecked deepish warm blue for my sons room, when he was a baby.

He's still got the exact same carpet now, and he's 20!

'Heather twist' ie 'speckly' carpet is forgiving, as is a deeper colour.

Thanks for all your comments Milly and minkah, very helpful. Will go and browse in JL, I don't mind spending time there! Didn't think of off cuts, will see if there are any warehouses in my area.
