Capping off a pipe

We are converting an old toilet/store room into a craft room. The toilet area has the toilet capped off but a cold water pipe with a tap on the end sticking up out of a concrete floor. The pipe is still connected to the water supply. We need to cut the pipe off as close to the floor as possible, the pipe is iron, and cap it off but I'm not sure what the best way to do this is. If anyone can give me any help it would be great, this room has been unusable because my DH procrastinates if he doesnt know how to do something and its only recently I've managed to work out whats bothering him.

If it is an iron pipe it is fairly difficult. Best to ask around for an experienced wrinkly plumber who is old enough to have the big tools needed.

I'd think you're going to end up with at least 2" of pipe still above floor level as it's going to be difficult to cap it any closer (unless you start digging into the concrete).

Would it be feasible to try to get the capped off bit boxed-in (build a wooden box round it) to try to cover/protect it from knocks? Or is it going to get in the way?

Thanks both of you, looks like we'd best get an actual plumber in then. Unfortunately we cant box it off, its surprisingly far into the room for a sink pipe, I have suggested digging down into the concrete but my DH didnt likw the look of that idea. I think possibly I should just stop trying to do everything ourselves and get someone in

Ah right, then yes looks like a job for a Plumber. Hope you get sorted relatively easily.
