Moving boxes - how many and where from etc.

Has anyone recently ordered moving boxes from the many websites that sell them? Any recommendations please?

Moving from a 2 bed + study flat and have a lot of stuff... I'm trying to work out how many boxes I'll need to get? Especially have a lot of books, clothes and shoes which will take a lot of room/be heavy in boxes.

(No car so can't collect free boxes from shops etc.)

Have you had quotes from removal companies? They normally provide the boxes a few days before moving day.

I just moved from a very similar set up (2 beds, big living area, loads of stuff) and had about 120 boxes. 60ish were small size - roughly 12 x 12 x 12 inches, then the rest were a mixture of medium 12 x 12 x 18 inch and large 18 x 18 x 20 inch. We did pack clothes in the big ones where we could have just put them in Ikea bags, but we had cheap mover (2 men and a big van really) and I didn't want to lose anything in transit.

Boxes are expensive to buy but I got about half of mine by putting out a call on my local Facebook groups, people were only too happy to pass them on for nothing if they were cluttering up their new homes. I know you don't drive but you'd save money even if you got a taxi to go and pick up a load or could persuade a friend to give you a lift. You might even find someone nice willing to deliver!

Thanks zgaze I'm doing the same with using a big van and two men as will be leaving most furniture behind (renting out my old place and upgrading cheaper furniture for better quality stuff for the new house).

Will try the local Facebook group for second hand boxes.
