Underlay

I've read on threads on here that to reduce the cost of carpeting, buying underlay elsewhere is a good idea. If you've done this, where did you get your underlay from? I'd like 'good' stuff….

I think we got ours from www.tradepriced.co.uk. They sell well known brands and products, not stuff you've never heard of. We bought enough for several rooms at once because it brought the cost down although we weren't in a position to get all the carpet at once.

The carpet fitters were really impressed we'd paid so little and asked DP for the details!

Also doing the same from trade priced for underlay. Although I'm getting my carpets from Carpetright as they had a cracking good deal on this summer - and I've looked loads on the internet for my specific carpet!

OOOh Cookie, really? Can you tell me what sort of carpet you went for? We're fitting a new house & I'm horrified at the amount the last 'necessary' bits are costing. I've ended up with no window dressings hoary from essential bedroom ones & we really want a gorgeous stair runner as we won't lift it for many years hopefully. So if we could get decent cheap stuff for the bedrooms it'd be great.

We've had our carpets and kitchen vinyl from Carpetright. I know other people are not always fans (to put it mildly), but we've never had an issue and have always got good deals. They make their money on underlay, door bars, etc so get those elsewhere.

Carpetright did a summer sale on a Saxony beige carpet called Sacremento at half price (original was £25 per sq meter). I'm very fussy on flooring and wanted a deep luxurious pile to sink our feet into. I think the fitting fees are very reasonable as well. Their sale is over on this range but keep your eyes peeled as they always do sales.. I like shops like carpet right as I think it's important to see and feel the quality vs online!!

To save money I am going to paint my staircase. I've seen some amazing stripes on pininterest!!
