Vendor has offered the use of garage to store stuff - still a few weeks from completion.

Completing on a sale next week but will have two or three weeks with my parents until my next property completes...still waiting on mortgage offer and land searches.

the seller of my next house said that nearer the time she could provide the key to the garage to store any non valuable stuff.

my current plan is to have a removals company move bulky items and put them in storage for a month and then do a second move when we complete the purchase. This costs another 400 quid compared to doing one single move.

do you think its too son before completion to take up the offer of the use of garage and just do one move. The property is empty and i could store sofas, dining table, chairs, fridge freezer and washing machine in the garage. Maybe she meant if it was only a few days overlap. Do you think she would agree to this for a few weeks?

Be very careful of you have not even exchanged . Check with your solicitor about a formal agreement and what insurance you'd need. Personally think it would be better in proper storage, in case there are problems with the purchase.

I think it's too soon because there's still a fair bit that could go wrong and stop the sale going ahead.
It's very kind of her but her solicitor would probably advise against it if she asked them.

don't even think about it until you've exchanged!

after that - quite possible. Our buyers asked for this after exchange and we agreed. With the provisos that they still insured their stuff, and also make sure there is a VERY clear boundary. You don't want the removers gathering up your stuff when your vendor leaves!

Personally I wouldn't. We had a delay between house completions and we put it all into storage and I wish it had only been a £400 difference.

I literally packed like I was going on holiday as we lived a hotel for a few weeks with 2 DC under 6. It wasn't ideal but this is our dream home and the removal men stored my stuff in a water tight, fully insured building.

Have you considered how you will get all of that stuff there yourself? Are you expecting the removal men to do it because they may well charge you to do that.

I did store my larder freezer at a friend's house so we wouldn't have to eat our way through the contents, but the only reason they did this for free was probably because of the amount of money I was paying for 2 removals and storage fees Grin

'Nearer the time'....but not before the exchange of contracts.

We were total idiots 15 years ago and started putting heating and electrics in before exchange. It makes my blood run cold (very hard now) to even think of it.

Please don't. Especially in this crazy market.
