Extension ideas

I could only find a thread from 2009 on this but may be me searching badly...

We're having a kitchen/diner extension at the back of our house. The architect has done some initial drawings but the window positions and things aren't quite right. He's happy to amend them but we are struggling with all the different ways we could position the windows and what size etc.

Please can someone recommend some good websites where we can get some better ideas?

houzz.com has lots and lots of photos

Or just google 'kitchen diner' and click on images.

Has anyone on your street done anything similar?

Birdies · 06/08/2014 20:23

Thanks, Houzz looks good.

Nope no one has done anything like this on our street.

It's not so much the interior I'm worried about as we're going to salvage as much of our existing kitchen as we can. It's the layout and size of windows and doors - there are just endless possibilities and it's made more unusual by the fact we'll have one half with a flat roof and glass lantern thingy and the other half a sloping roof with skylights (have to have a flat roof as extending off a single story garage). So I don't know how to get the windows looking right against the roofs being so different. I don't know how anyone decides on something so important (and expensive). Nice decisions to make but wish I could actually see a mock-up picture beforehand rather than just architect sketches from above.

If you go onto Houzz and contact Oneplan, Karen at Oneplan might be able to help you. The company produces plans (including great visuals) for kitchens extensions etc and they are definitely worth spending a little bit of money on for decisions as important at this.

She's on here too sometimes but easier to find on Houzz.

Our kitchen diner is half sloped with a velux and half flat ceiling (under a second storey, so no roof light). I haven't found it particularly challenging. We have the dining table end under the velux and the kitchen under the flat ceiling.

Great thanks will contact her :)

mummy are your windows symmetrical around the whole space? Not sure if that makes sense but we're trying to think about where to put some patio doors as well and the centre of the outside wall will be where the roofs change, so am thinking it might look odd to not have the doors under just one roof or the other.

I don't think that made any sense but not sure how else to explain it!

Oops didn't see this! Yes, my patio doors sit under where the roof changes, with symmetrical windows each side.
