Removing plaster mouldings etc - who does that bit?

So in the new house we have finally moved into, the living room has deeelaightful plaster mouldings on all the living room walls, along with some nasty "display niches" and beautiful woodchip inserts.

We want to get this all replastered and redecorated, but my question is would a plasterer remove all the mouldings etc that we don't want before plastering? My husband thinks not - but if a plasterer doesn't do that then who would?

Also how do we go about getting rid of the niches? Do they just pull them out & then fill the gaps left? With what?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge about such things, but undoubtedly someone else will have done all this already!

Why don't you line up two or three plasterers/builders to quote for the work and see what they say? Ask for detailed written quotes and if there's no mention of the mouldings then follow that up with them.

If the plasterers don't they will know someone who will.

Thanks guys. Have a couple of plasterers lined up. Will see what they say.

My plasterer removed the old wallpaper off our ceiling. The joiner we used also re-sealed the outside of our windows. Ask, I think most tradesmen will do odd jobs on an hourly / daily rate even if they're not really part of their trade.
