Do I want silk or Matt emulsion?

I've never understood when to use which or whether it's just a preference thing.

I'm painting my sitting room in a soft blue (Dulux First Dawn). It's a south facing room and I'm painting onto lining paper so something forgiven of the odd lump or bump would be great.

So which do you think would look better please?

I prefer the look of matt walks but have two little boys who leave mucky hand prints everywhere so my walls are all silk as it wipes clean better!

If your walls are already satin some Matt paint doesn't dry well over the top - you might need to give the current satin paint a light sand over first.

I like satin. Easy to wipe (unlike matt) but without the high shine of silk (which I feel looks a bit tacky Blush)

Matt - silk will highlight any lumps and bumps and is horrible and shiny.

Just to chuck a curve ball at you - I prefer soft sheen.- dulux

Not as shiny as silk, but more easy care than matt

You want a washable matt.
