Any experts on external paint about?

We had our timber windows and French doors repainted 2 years ago by a decorator, who also supplied the paint which she strongly recommended as being the best available - Coovar. After a year the French doors were cracked and peeling so she came back and redid them but now another year on the French doors have peeled so badly they're back to bare wood in places and all the other windows and sills are also cracked and peeling. We are seriously unimpressed as we paid nearly £3k and it was supposed to last 10 years!

Anyway, can anyone recommend a more hard wearing external paint? The house is at the top of a hill and the affected windows and doors are south facing so get all extremes of weather.

That's utterly crap. I'm not familiar with the brand of paint, so I don't know whether the paint or the workmanship is at fault, but we've had perfectly good service out of our dulux exterior gloss. I'm not sure I'd leave it 10 years between coats, but certainly five... And we also live in a very exposed location.

Thanks Sandthorn, I'd have gone with Dulux Weathershield if I'd been buying but we thought we'd rely on an "expert" and use her recommendation. Never again!

Hi - I've used Sandtex and Robseal exterior paints and never had a problem. I presume an appropriate primer/undercoat has been used?

Ronseal, not Robseal!

Some of the window sashes were new and primed whereas the French doors were already painted so she should have just prepared them properly for repainting. The French doors are the worst but everything is peeling Sad
