How long from survey to exchange?

We are in a chain and are the ones holding it up as our survey could not be booked until 12th august. Assuming the survey is ok (fc!) how long is it normally from then until exchange? Will the searches have been done already, or are they not done until the survey is ok'd? Just trying to work out a rough timescale.

the searches should have been kicked off - that is for you to find out. That's nothing to do with the surveyor, call your solicitor and find out what is going on. The solicitor should also know how long your council take to return searches.

some solicitors do nothing until nagged - if you have one of those, you'll need to make a lot of phone calls.

Yep - the survey is for you to sort out. Check your solicitor is getting on with the rest of the work. We chose to send the survey report to the solicitor but only because we had a few queries we wanted them to include in their enquiries to the vendor.

As long as the survey doesn't change the value of the house or change your mind about it, it doesn't make much difference to the purchase timescale.

My survey came back within a week. My hold up is the vendor haven't sent the paperwork to my solicitors so they cannot start any searches! Very annoying, nothing has happened since 16th July

juneybean tell the vendors agent to give the vendor a kick if they actually want to sell the place.
