We have bought a property that previously had 5 pets and hence has the obvious pet dander and odour. To start afresh, we believe we need

A) Painting
B) Recarpeting
C) Professional Deep Cleaning

But what is the best order to do them?...ABC, ACB, BAC, BCA, CAB, CBA...please give your preferred order along with any justification. Any other helpful advice (UK specific) is welcome too.

Thanks in advance. :)

Rip out carpet, deep clean, paint, fit new carpet.

CMOTDibbler · 30/07/2014 15:42

ABC - though if you are repainting and recarpeting, you shouldn't need te deep clean.

If it can't happen for a while, cab

jellybean777 · 30/07/2014 15:50

@CMOTDibbler, the cleaning is more for the kitchen units, utility room, conservatory and bathroom as I am guessing the pets could have licked the lower surfaces and the upper bits could do with some good dusting coz I don't know what they had stored where?...Oh btw, I am allergic to fur and they had 2 dogs and 3 cats!

cab then!

HortenMarket · 30/07/2014 15:57

I am about to move into a house that had 3 cats and I a badly allergic. There's not much carpet but that is coming out on day one. A deep clean wouldn't be enough to get rid of the cat fur for me. Hoping I don't get too poorly but will be rammed full of antihistamine!

crazykat · 30/07/2014 16:35

I'd rip out the existing carpets and strip the walls.

Then get a deep clean done.

Decorate and then get the new carpets laid.

jellybean777 · 02/08/2014 16:04

@crazycat, I think that is my best bet too...thinking of doing the deep clean before painting and recarpeting coz in case the painters exceed the time line and we are under pressure to move, as long as the house is at least cleaned well, we can move stuff and try to stay in one room while work continues.
But it is a good idea to rip off the carpets as we plan to do that ourselves anyway. Thanks for the tip.

Carpets out first of all. That is where the smell lives.

Deep clean the floors and all washable surfaces.Paint whatever is paintable.New carpets last of all.

So CAB

We are in a similar position having just put an offer in on a house which is currently minging despite no obvious pets! I rang a few cleaning companies who recommended that the deep cleaning should be done after taking carpets out (in some instances, they may treat the cement floors with a biological agent for a couple of days). Then paint. Then recarpet.

Good luck!

jellybean777 · 04/08/2014 09:07

SpecialHandsMummy, that is excellent to hear that advise from a cleaning company....thank you...so its the same order as crazy cat & killmenow...good, so thats decided then!! Thanks all of you.
