Not been given an inventory

Hi

When we moved in here Nov '13 I did an inventory with the landlords' wife. She took it away to type it up and was going to send it to me but I have never received it. First of all she forgot to type it up, then she forgot to give it to me and when I reminded her again she forgot to post it.

The deposit is held in a deposit scheme and we are moving out shortly. I know with no inventory the landlord can't claim, but there is an inventory I just haven't been given a copy and how do I know they won't change things on there when we move out?

Does anyone know where I would stand with the deposit protection scheme in the case of a claim? I don't see where there would be one but I just want to be forewarned and protect myself

Thanks

did you sign this inventory? If not, it is of no value.

Yes I did as we agreed it together. But if I don't get an inventory before we move out, how do I know they haven't changed anything, I won't be able to check

I think you must demand a copy of the signed inventory, in writing. A typed-up, unsigned version is of no value.

A very very short letter. No pleasantries, apologies, or sympathy to weaken your message. Say you require it within ten days.

If she's lost it, that's her problem.

Surely only the handwritten copy you signed will have any weight. A typed up copy without your signature is meaningless unless it has the original handwritten copy attached, so you'd be able to see if there are any changes.

Thanks. sigh I was understanding because they had two very small children, just bought one house, moved, were selling another and were just really busy, but it's getting ridiculous now.

I have emailed them and told them not to forget to post the inventory today as they promised they would and to provide me with a copy of the original signed copy not just the typed up version.
