Urghh wanting a ceiling rose to go with my new chandelier

Ok so it is silly question time...

I've bought a fab chandelier and now want a plainish ceiling rose to go with the coving in our traditional victorian house. I have found some I like but I cannot quite get my head round what I do with the metal rose that comes with the chandelier. Does that fit flush with the ceiling, so I have to cut a hole in the ceiling rose (in this case 12 cm) for the metal rose attached to the chandelier? I have found one supplier that supplies roses with different sizes of holes cut out but none anywhere near 12cm.

Beginning to think this is all too hard and complicated! Any thoughts on this?

Our chandelier just sits underneath the ceiling rose, if that's any help...

I thought you attach the ceiling rose to the ceiling and then the light attaches to that, so the hole in the ceiling rose is just for the cable to pop through.

May I so where you got your ceiling rose from? I've been having a look on eBay but not sure where else to look.

Thank you both, not going mad then - I just need to ensure a big enough hole for the leads and the chandelier rose will fit under the ceiling rose. That is assuming that the pattern is not too close to the centre IYSWIM.

Chilisauce I have not bought anything yet, as some of them come with pre-drilled 'holes', but I just googled ceiling roses and plaster ceiling roses and quite a lot of on-line companies came up. There is a big variation of material and prices.

That's what I found when I searched too, big variations. I'm wondering if the cheap resin ones look ok once they are stuck up and painted. I'm think they should do.

The cheap resin ones actually look pretty darn good once painted along with the ceiling. We have them in all the rooms here - they are similar style to the original plaster coving that was thankfully still in situ. Every other damn original feature was moved at some point in the 1960s.
