Does any of you clever people know what this gadget (stuck onto the wall outside the front door) might be? I'm worried that curious fingers are going to push the buttons and set off an alarm that I don't have the code for and it will be such a bother to get it sorted!

(it's about 10 - 12 cm/ 3 - 4 inches high and has a hinged plain black cover, that you might recognise, with the curly initials on the logo)

It's a key safe. Elderly or disabled people have a set of keys which can be accessed with the code.

It looks like key lock box. You can put a key in there and it's only accesible by imputting the right code.

A lot of vulnerable adults have them so outside carers etc can get in the house

Yes, it is a key safe. Only any use to you if you know the code.

Aethelfleda · 27/07/2014 01:06

Like they said, a keysafe. if it's a new-to-you house and you don't know the code, ask the previous owners (or their next of kin if this is a little-old-lady house) what the old combo is: once open you can change the numbers just like in a normal combination lock. you can leave a spare key inthere as longas your household insurance doesnt mind (check with them). Good for teens who might forget a key, as well as for its use for vulnerable adults!

its a keysafe, though they are not very safe.
