Come talk to me about moving companies who do packing too

Can anyone give me a rough idea of costs for companies who pack and move?

Obviously it will depend on how far the move is (about 100 miles) and how much 'stuff' there is to move - but any info which will give me a rough starting point would be a big help.

I may be asking a really obvious question to those of you have packers, so apologies in advance...

I am planning on using packers. Did you dust all the stuff you hardly ever get to eg I have a good 7 fullsize book cases of open bookshelves & I haven't taken books off the shelves to dust for over a year, so I checked yesterday & v dusty...

What do you/did you apart from decluttering?

OutDamnSpot · 26/07/2014 08:28

Last time I did nothing (but I did go into labour with dc1 the day before packers came).

This time, everything has been decluttered and moved recently for viewings so will probably do nothing again.

If I did have dusty or dirty things, I'd like to think I'd clean pre-pack. But it wouldn't happen so would think "I'll do when I unpack". In reality I expect neither would happen. Packers wib't care about dust, so don't worry.

I did nothing. They packed the dust. Grin

I did nothing also. In fact, 10 days before we moved we had thought it had all fallen through, and our house had been taken off the market months before, so I really do mean nothing.

We did have the majority of the boxes put into our (integrated) garage at the new house, so they got sorted from there

Thanks all - it sounds as though Pickfords are getting the thumbs up. Any other companies I should consider?

We sorted first. Decluttered massively. And we had to empty the loft first.

And yes, if the books are dusty they'll pack the dust.

We've used Fox and Bishops Move, they were all very good.

In fact, if you are in the midlands then you could try Removal Masters, my colleague used them before and couldn't rate them any higher!

HauntedNoddyCar · 27/07/2014 14:55

We used Pickfords too. Would be happy to use again.

Interesting thread.

I've just been quoted £1500+VAT without packing or £2000+VAT with packing to move a 5 bed house about 120 miles. Basic insurance is included or we can upgrade for £150/200 (depending on which service we use) This includes putting a load of furniture into 2 big containers to go into storage. We don't have a garage and I have ruthlessly decluttered.

I've heard really mixed things about Pickfords. A friend had a nightmare with them when they put stuff into storage and they lost track of where it was Shock

Don't know whereabouts you are OP but PM me if you want details of our removal firm.

culturemulcher · 29/07/2014 21:31

Thanks Relocator - will do!
