If you were decorating a bathroom from scratch, what would you do?

Ive been scouring Pinterest but am struggling to settle on some ideas for the new bathroom. Got quite a small budget but I need to decide on a colour scheme/tiles basic design.

If you were designing a bathroom from scratch what would you do?

This is what we did - very bright but I love it!

I would go with pure white bath/sink/toilet every time, not even a soft white colour.
And I would ensure that the tile colour and style could outlast several changes of paint colour, towels and accessories.

oddslippers I like that. We've nearly finished ours, off-white tiling, pale walls and beigey floor and have to say it looks rather dull.

Actually the bathroom is the one room I feel I got absolutely as I liked it :)

I went for slatey dark green floor tiles and a white suite with white wall tiles and white walls. That's it. Originally we had a basin from my mum's house which was a pale sagey green, this was just because it was going free, but actually I liked the combo; we have now replaced it with this basin which I ADORE. We have an old wooden loo seat which got trashed during the building work and I quite like that too.

At some point I will get a bathroom cabinet made so we can stop having bottles all over the place, we now have one that was going cheap in a sale for £20.

Hmmm, I'm thinking about this at the minute.

I think I would (will) go for completely tiled, possibly metro tile, in white with grey grout and one of the small walls will be tiled in a zingy colour (royal blue, orange, you get the drift) and I might make the floor match that colour.

Everything else white.

It's the flooring I struggle with.

I'm sick of all-white bath, toilet and sink. It seems to be the only choice and has been for years. I don't want to see a return to avocado suites! remember 'em only too well..but the endless white is very boring.

thanks everyone keep them coming! I like the bright pink oddslippers. the house im buying has an avocado suite - its not staying!! white seems to be the only choice for the bath etc. Im not sure if white tiles will make the room feel quite clinical but ive just found these: www.victoriaplumb.com/Tiles/Mosaic-Tiles/Trevi-Black-Linear-Glass-Stone-Mosaic-Tile-305cm-x-305cm_3165.html

and they are nothing like I would normally consider but I really like them. I don't know what sort of colours would go aside from white thought!

I know the white is boring. But the suite and the tiles are probably the most expensive items and the messiest to replace, so if they can see you through several different metamorphoses (sp) all the better.
A lick of paint, some new towels, a co-ordinating bath mat and a couple of funky new ornaments and you can have a new bathroom every six months.
Not forgetting of course the crocheted lady toilet roll holder.

I did completely white tiles & bathroom suite and then a charcoal floor and any towels/accessories I fancy.
