After a somewhat arduous slog we are completing on the sale of our flat next week!

One small problem is our new house (and it is new new) won't be ready until October.....

Having exhausted google, does anyone know of any short term lets/self catering or serviced apartments in West Sussex/surrey area?

We have one option currently but even that could fall through - which has been the recurring theme throughout this godawful process.

Any help gratefully received!

have you tried looking up holiday lets or airbnb? Caravans?

not cheap but probably all you can do. Alternatively it may actually work out cheaper to take a six month tenancy somewhere, that way you could avoid paying storage as well and have a cushion if there is a delay on the new house.

I sympathise. We are also waiting for a new house to be built in a similar area. We have a longer period of time than you so we went for a ordinary rental, and still found ourselves gazumped by someone who paid 12 months rent up front to secure something (we wanted a break clause after 6). We've had to take a 12 month lease even now, as there was so little around to rent. We had come to the conclusion that it would be cheaper overall to take a small property for a longer period (also allows a cushion if the new build is delayed) and started calculating things as an overall cost rather than monthly rent IYSWIM

Thanks for your replies. The development is definitely on schedule so we are aiming for October. We have looked at a couple of flats to rent but it seems letting agents have become more unscrupulous since I last rented one wanted a 9month minimum tenancy (I wouldn't mind but the place had been empty for two months and we have cash up front)
Another then stated no children, even though we viewed the flat with our one year old, and the last one wanted a 12 month contract with a break at 6 months - perfect! When we asked if we could then give notice at 5 months (what I thought was normal practice) they said no, notice at 6 months to vacate at 7! Just trying to screw more money, grrrr.

Ha! Good news! Our short let has just been confirmed! Better start packing!

Oh excellent news, well done.

We are having to pay 6m up front and can only be released from the 12m contract if they are able to relet!
