Managing moving day with dcs?

Any tips on how to make moving day run smoothly with dcs in tow?

We're relocating over quite a distance so while this end should be fine - I'm sure they will be able to go to a friend's house while the removals men do their stuff - we'll have noone to look after them at the other end.

Our new rented house is quite erm compact so if anyone has any tips on how to make this all run smoothly, that'd be brilliant. They aren't tiny (aged 7-10), which I know helps, but do obviously need some looking after Smile I haven't moved house for 10 years so I'm out of practice!

Have the essentials for getting them fed and into bed at the other end separated out, preferably in your car, not the removals van. Then whatever happens or however late things get you can get them set up comfortably. And do the same with some books and toys to pass the time if they're waiting around a lot.

I would also personally not put any boxes or furniture into their room during the move if possible, so that they've got a calm space to escape to.

Lots of snacks and drinks. Stuff to bribe them with.

First things to get ready are their rooms. So get the movers to put their stuff on last so it is first off and you can concentrate on their room(s). If their beds are up and made with some familiar stuff around them then great.

Get the TV set up quickly too especially if you have a DVD player.
