Sold my pre marriage house in Jan for 12k below what my mortgage was.

Living in DHs old marital home for 8 years. It has never felt like home but waited till DSS grew up (18 & 20). DD 2.6. It is 4 bed and they are building right a shop right at the back of our garden.

I don't like the estate but lovely countryside1 min walk away.

No idea what it's worth but the market seems saturated with new builds asking 350 - 400K for four beds. And no garden. Outside spacd is important to me and we have a large garden with a large veggie patch.

What I am saying is we wont be buying much more house for an extra 100K I don't think. We
could wait and save. But DH is 47.

I want a nice detached house in the country with more space than what these teeny tiny new builds are offering.

Looks like you need an emotional move?....like you have been hanging on, doing your duty for years....Do you need more space? are 18 & 20 yr old DSS in need of a designated room...how often do they stay over? I would be looking for a quality move - not a quantity move - nicer area/more character - the lifestyle you want for the next 5-10 years -- go fo it ...live your dreams.

DSS have their own rooms and are here 50/50 still.

You need to do the maths- get a valuation on yours, see what is around in your price range then think about it.

You may not be able to afford the dream home.

Unless you are talking of moving out of the immediate area to somewhere that prices are much lower.

47 isn't old! I wonder do you mean you won't be able to borrow any more ( not true) or you don't want to save and have to wait.

I understand your situation- we would need at least £200K to move within our immediate village for anything bigger and with more land- but moving a mile up the road to a less attractive village would provide us with the house and land we'd like.
