Best Place for Made to Measure Curtains

Theonlyoneiknow · 07/07/2014 15:15

I need to get curtains made to measure the for the two DCS bedrooms. Their curtain rail is approx 250cm wide.

John Lewis is really expensive!

Am looking for black out curtains. Problem.is also finding a fabric I like.

Has anyone found an online made to measure place that they would recommend?

Thanks!!

Would never ever buy curtains online. Go to a local place for a quote; they will measure up properly and advise on header tape etc. Curtains are not that difficult to make, why not have a go? Try the local market for fabric or look for fabric barns . Your going to need about five widths of fabric depending on width plus enough for turning and pattern matching.

Try Dunelm or Terry's Fabrics. I have no idea whether they are cheaper or not, but worth a try. Also, if you are near a large Debenhams they may have a curtain department/concession. Alternatively, if you see a fabric you really like, why not have a chat with a local dressmaker and see what they would charge to make up curtains for you?

Lot's of people run soft furnishing businesses from home ( and usually better than Dunelm give their limited stock). Ask around.

If you have a local Facebook group, ask there. There are loads of very reasonable curtain makers in my area. You choose and buy the fabric, they do the rest.

Even if you are a novice sewer and don't want to make your own curtains it's incredibly easy to add a blackout lining to existing curtains.

They can be bought ready made, just hook them on to existing curtains.

Bought some really good curtains for our patio doors. Had looked in John Lewis etc. nothing suitable and as you say really expensive. Then wandered into Linens Direct in Bromley. Saw just what I wanted. Several visitors have remarked on how lovely they are. They were reasonable but looked expensive. Also was lucky in British Home Stores for another set of curtains.
